I never got into “The Riches”. I don’t know whether it’s because I’m not the biggest fan of its stars, Minnie Driver (didn’t mind her in “Grosse Pointe Blank”) and Eddie Izzard, or whether it’s simply because the show’s a little too peculiar for my liking but whatever the case, I watched about two episodes… and returned to normal programming.
Just as well I didn’t watch. The show has been canceled. Nothing more displeasing to hear a show you’re watching has been axed – it’s like running a marathon only to discover there’s no finish line.
FX have apparently chopped it because it costs too much to make (I’m hearing FOXs “Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles” may be doomed for similar reasons) and more so, nobody much is tuning in.
Premiering in March 2007, "The Riches" got off to a somewhat healthy start with a 1.9 rating/5 share in the demo, and 3.84 million viewers overall, but slipped after that. Due to the writers strike, the second season was shortened from 13 episodes to seven and ended in April.
