From Dallas to Melrose

You may recall, Katie Cassidy was pegged for big things at one stage.

The daughter of musician David Cassidy was tipped ‘next best thing’ just before the release of two horror remakes she had roles in, “Black Christmas” and “When A Stranger Calls”, but it wasn’t until it was announced she’d be playing Lucy Ewing in the big-screen “Dallas” flick that the phone really started to ring.

The story goes that Cassidy bet Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson to the much-coveted role of the young Ewing in a big-screen film version of the TV soapie to star John Travolta. At the time, the pic was to be directed by Aussie Robert Luketic (“Monster-In-Law”) – who, inconveniently, dropped out shortly after attaching an all-star cast to the picture. Though she remained attached to the project via its different incarnations – Betty Thomas (“Wayne’s World”) was most recently rumoured to be directing; what the hell!? – it doesn’t look like Cassidy’s going to be filming at Southfork any time soon.

Alas, she’ll have to make do with Melrose Place.

The young actress, recently doing the guest-thing over on The CW’s “Supernatural”, has been offered a full-time gig with the network. She’ll play the character of Ella on “Melrose”.

Michael Ausiello recently had published character breakdowns for the series, including that of the latter :

David Patterson and Ella Flynn will soon be living in the chic complex. David is the son of Melrose Place forefather Jake. Ella is his casual lover, great at her job in PR and filled with barbed-tongue comments that have earned her the Amanda-like persona for the new series.

Cassidy is only the second actor to be cast on the series. It was only just announced that former “Swingtown” star Michael Rady was on board.

Variety has the story…
