Hmmm, now this is interesting…
You’ll recall how we’d heard that Emily Blunt would be playing a role in the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” spin-off, “Get Him to the Greek” (and how Jason Segel later confirmed Blunt’s involvement in an interview with Aint it Cool News) opposite Russell Brand. Well….Rose Byrne was just announced by The Hollywood Reporter to be playing a role that’s sounds eerily similar to the one we, and Segel (who described the character as “Fergie-type”, referring to the singer, of course, not the chunky ex-royal) had heard the lovely Ms Blunt was onboard to play.
According to the trade, “Damages” star Byrne will play “Brand's ex-girlfriend, a Courtney Love-type rocker”.
I’d say what’s happened here is Blunt was either onboard, or in talks, and the deal didn’t close – or she was forced out (in a similar way to what happened to her with “Iron Man 2” and the whole “Gulliver’s Travels” thing) because that’s undoubtedly the same role the Brit was said to be playing - only now they're referring to it as a 'Courtney Love-type' and not, as Segel said, a 'Fergie-type'.
Meanwhile, Sean ‘Puffy Daddy’ Combs and Elisabeth Moss (TVs “Mad Men”) have also joined the cast of the flick, playing Jonah Hill’s boss, and Hill’s repressed girlfriend, respectively.
The script, which Nicholas Stoller wrote, follows a fresh-out-of-college record-company intern (Hill) hired to get an out-of-control rock star (Brand) from London to a gig at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre, becoming introduced to an out-of-control life of hookers and blow along the way.
