McG on Terminator 5

View this PostDespite being one of the worst movies of the year (not to mention a major blemish on an otherwise very solid film series), “Terminator Salvation” made more than enough Cabbage to warrant a further sequel. And according to the man behind the misfire, McG, it’s full speed ahead on “T5″.

”Sometimes people like to take time off, but I’m excited about the next installation of the story, in the Terminator idea”, McG tells IESB, when asked whether he’d like to take elongated time off between the two “Terminator” movies. “So, for me, it’s terribly exciting to get back out there and show a different face of that idea, and perhaps get out of the apocalyptic world and into a contemporary world. I think the audience is going to be very excited about our way in.”

In a separate interview with IGN, the filmmaker says “The idea is to play with one of the tried and true rules of the franchise – time travel – and introduce it in [T5]. I don’t want to share too much, but let’s just say it’s very, very likely that John Connor is going to end up running through rooms like this where he knows something that none of us know. And we’ll have a much more clearly defined antagonist in the new picture. It will be more of a chase movie with a new Terminator that is on your ass.”

Sounds OK… but then so did “Terminator Salvation” this time last year.

(On a side note, McG tells IGN that Sam Worthington – his “Terminator” Terminator – is his first choice for Nemo in his ’20,000 Leagues’ flick).
