Dirty Dancing Remake

Lionsgate is doing the work of three men: Larry, Curly & Moe

Production Weekly 'tweets' that a remake of classic hip-hugging bop flick “Dirty Dancing” is on the cards……

...... shameful, huh!?

Does the original not still hold up wonderful well!? Does the soundtrack still not make your car speakers!? Don’t Patrick Swayze’s hips still make Grandma’s blousers burst over!?

Seems nothing is sacred. The ideas factory seems to be as empty as a Hermit’s address book.

Is someone out to fuck with Patrick Swayze by remaking all his movies? – “Red Dawn” is in the works, there’s whispers of a new “Outsiders”, “Point Break” is being sequelized, and now “Dirty Dancing” is about to be the subject of a cheap imitation! The last thing Swayze needs to see right now is his fine work being undone by foolish minds, don’t ya think!? Is he going to have to watch as his ‘big one’ “Ghost” goes face-down into the copy machine, too? Too depressing...

Someone named Julia Dahl is writing the thing. Not a hard task I’d think. I’m guessing any old hack could pen a remake to “Dirty Dancing”– I mean, nothing needs changing; you just replace the words ‘Eric Carmen Song’ with ‘Nickelback Song’. My 2-year-old could eat alphabet soup and shit out a “Dirty Dancing” script.

Who can forget when “Dirty Dancing” hit theatres? It was huge! They had like advance screenings playing two-weeks-in-a-row before the flick actually opened. The buzz was that good on it.

I worked at a Drive-in theatre at the time, and because the owner never paid his bills on time he rarely got to show new-release movies before the local cinema. But just this once he managed to get his hands on “Dirty Dancing” before the big cinema chain – it was outstanding. I’m thinking someone made a mistake in the dispatch department, or something, and sent up “Dancing” instead of some three-month old piece of shit like “Rent-A-Cop” or “18 Again”. Whatever the case, the Drive-In was packed for the next couple of weeks! (and once it’s run finished, and we begun showing rubbish like “Rent-A-Cop” again, it was back to serving three customers a night at the candy bar).
