Seems everyone’s forgotten about Winona Ryder’s little take-now-pay-later misdemeanour in Shopping Lane a few years back, so much so that Hollywood’s ready and willing to transform her back into the A-Lister she once was (and not some has-been whose become better known as ‘that chick that always talks up a Heathers sequel that’s never gonna happen’). Hot on the heels of Ms Ryder’s quick but pivotal “Star Trek” turn, and her showy turn in the upcoming “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” , comes a report from /Film suggesting that the star of such Clinton-era hits as “Heathers” and “Edward Scissorhands” has snagged a plum role in Darren ‘The Fountain’ Aronofsky’s next magnum opus, “Black Swan”.
The film stars Natalie Portman as a young dancer at the New York City Ballet who may or may not be having delusions about a rival dancer (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” hottie Mila Kunis). The supernatural thriller shares comparisons with “The Others” so it ain’t all Pirouettes and Chass.
(I’ve read the script, and though a little dull in spots, it does seem like it’ll make a good movie - -and you fellas are going to need a fresh pair of ‘roos after you see what Ms Portman and Ms Kunis get up to in the movie!).
Ryder will play a has-been Ballerina whose “sorta” friends with Nina. Think the Gina Gershon character in “Showgirls”.
Also new to the cast are Vincent Cassel as the ”handsome but sinister Yevna,” the director of the new stage production, and screen vet Barbara ‘Lips’ Hershey, who’s playing Nina’s mama.
