"Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" vet Marti Nixon will return to the world of fangs, crosses and lobe-nibbling, signing on to direct a remake of Tom Holland's 1985 classic "Fright Night".

A remake of the vampiric comedy, starring Chris Sarandon and William Ragsdale, has been in development for quite a few years now. At one stage Sony were said to be considering doing an in-name only remake - thus, keeping the title, and forgetting the premise of the Holland script. Needless to say, the idea didn't take off. Dreamworks have ultimately ended up with the property, and by the sounds of it, it'll essentially be a straight-up remake of the camp classic.

In the original movie, Ragsdale (who'd go on to, er, fame as the titular character on sitcom "Herman's Head") played a teenager who discovers his neighbor (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire. Roddy McDowall, Stephen Geoffries and Amanda Bearse co-starred.

Noxon's built up her resume quite a bit since working on "Buffy" and "Angel", she's currently a writer-producer on cable hit "Mad Men", and filled the same position on "Grey's Anatomy" and "Prison Break".
