ID4-feited?

With “2012” likely to make more money this weekend than a cheap hooker on Valentine’s, director Roland Emmerich might just get his wish to film a sequel to “Independence Day”.

The operative word being : might.

Emmerich told < a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/11/12/exclusive-independence-day-sequel-to-be-two-movies-possibly-called-id4-ever/ ">MTV a couple of days ago that he has an idea (in other words, there’s no script; not even sure if he’s written a treatment) for two more “Independence Day” movies – the first titled “ID4-EVA” (the second? “ID4-SKIN”?).

"What we want to do in the next – it's actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc," Emmerich explained. "'Independence Day' was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that.

"The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don't know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended."

But IESB had the chance to ask Twentieth Century Fox shortly after the Emmerich interview went online whether or not there was actually a sequel in the works. Their response? Nope.

Maybe that’ll change after this weekend… or maybe Emmerich will be forced to stick to his word and make “2012” his ‘last’ disaster movie.
