Chase back as Clark Griswold!

You’ll recall, about a month ago, the trades announced that Warner Bros and “Wedding Crashers” director Dave Dobkin were looking to relaunch the popular “Vacation” series (sans National Lampoon). The idea, said the report, was to structure the film around that of a grown-up Rusty Griswold who, like his father in the 1984 original, would embark on a cross-country holiday with his own family.

It was speculated that Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo would likely be back to reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold – if even briefly – for the film. But as yet, no contracts have been signed.

But here’s a sign Chase (currently starring opposite Joel McHale on the very-funny “Community”) and D’Angelo (now recurring on TV hit “Entourage”) aren’t opposed to resurrecting the hapless duo – they’ve just filmed a TV commercial in which they reprise the roles!

US Magazine reports that the ad, for HomeAway vacation rentals, will air during the Superbowl on Feb 7.

"To this day, people ask me, 'When is the next Vacation movie?" says Chase, last seen as Griswold in the not-so-successful “Vegas Vacation”. "So I'm sure everyone will get a kick out of seeing the Griswolds and their misadventures once again."

D’Angelo was just as happy to do it. "Clark and Ellen have one of the most enduring marriages ever to come out of Hollywood. I am thrilled that HomeAway is reuniting Chevy and me."
