Good Girl Gone Country

Looks like the girl from ‘’Gossip Girl’’ – no, not the leggy blonde headline act that had her eyes all over my pink MP3 player when I interviewed her a year or two ago, but the ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ - is carving out a nice little film career for herself on the side. And probably just as well, what with how The CW is doing these days. Timing’s everything, right?

Leighton Meester, the fiery brunette from both “Gossip” and “Good Girls Go Bad” (that being the tune she sings with Cobra Starship), will join Gwyneth Paltrow, Garrett Hedlund, and (er, fellow rocker) Tim McGraw for Screen Gems’ “Love Don’t Get Me Down”, according to Variety.

And not only does it sound like it’s going to be a fairly worthwhile flick (it attracted Paltrow, that should say enough) but sounds like Meester’s going to be able to demonstrate her musical abilities via this one, too. Win Win.

The pic, that Shana Feste wrote and will direct, revolves around a rising young singer-songwriter (Hedlund) who becomes involved with a fallen country singer, played by Paltrow. As they embark on a career resurrection tour with her husband and manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned singer (Meester), romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all.

Tobey ‘Spider-Man’ Maguire is one of the producers on the pic, set to lens in Tennessee next month.
