Not content with near single-handedly stealing every scene from him in "No Country for Old Men", Josh Brolin may be set to snatch the "Men in Black" franchise from Tommy Lee Jones, too.
According to Hero Complex, the former ‘Goonie' (or are you a Goonie forever?, I'm not sure) is in talks to star in the third "Men in Black" flick for Sony. The question is, who would Brolin be playing?
The website says that Brolin might very well be playing a new agent assisting Jones and Will Smith's character on their latest monster-mash, but they're also suggesting Brolin might be playing Jones' character - as a young man - or K's(Jones' character)'s replacement (and can I make a suggestion? Call his character 'W').
One thing's for certain, Will Smith is set to return so unless his character, J, is planning on travelling back in time, there's no real way for Brolin to play a young K. My money's on ‘the third wheel' or ‘K replacement' scenarios.
And look, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise if Jones is the one who has decided to retire K. I interviewed him a couple of years back for "Men in Black II" and he just seemed, well, rather unenthused about the whole situation. Granted, that's Jones in general - he's a hard nut to crack; a man of few words - but he didn't seem too pleased with the film he was plugging. It's obviously a money job for the man.
"MIB 3", which is based on a script by "Tropic Thunder" writer Etan Cohen and which tentatively has Barry Sonnenfeld coming back to direct, is eyeing a 2010 start.
Considering Brolin turned down a sumly part in "Terminator : Salvation" (he was up for the role of Marcus), that says a fair bit about the script for "Men in Black 3" - mustn't be too shabby.
