You can blame this on “Old Dogs”.
Disney has abandoned plans to make the romantic comedy “Wedding Banned”, which was set to star Robin Williams (from the abovementioned recently flopperoo), Diane Keaton and queen worker-bee Anna Faris, says Risky Business.
“Banned” was to revolve around a long-divorced couple (Williams and Keaton) who kidnap their daughter (Faris) on her wedding day to prevent her from making the same mistakes they did. The parents rekindle their relationship as they elude cops and the angry groom.
The project is now in turnaround, which essentially means another studio can freely pick it up (even drop its attached cast if they wish).
It’s not unusual for films to be canceled at the 11th hour, but Disney’s new CEO Rich Ross has canned two of their big films in recent weeks – this, and of course, McG’s proposed remake of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”. Rich assumingly didn’t think either film were worth the paper they were written on, so is reshuffling the Disney slate to make the film version of young adult novel “Fallen” (which Ross is no doubt hoping will be the next “Twilight”), and the recently-announced remake of “The Black Hole” the studio’s main priorities for 2011. Gotta say, he might be onto something.
