One of the funnest interviews I’ve ever done was with Walter Hill, the veteran filmmaker whose many credits include such classics as “48 Hours†(and its sequel), “The Warriorsâ€, “Streets of Fire†and “Alien†(which he co-wrote). I’m a huge fan of Hill’s – but I’ll admit, he hasn’t really done anything in recent years (“Supernova†anyone?! How about “Undisputedâ€!?) to warrant the adoration, really.
Maybe his next flick “St. Vincentâ€, starring comeback, er, kid Mickey Rourke, will remind us all how great Hill once was?
There must be something in the flick… or rather, the script… because a couple more heavyweights just joined the cast. According to Twitch, Oscar Winner Forest Whitaker, the always-brilliant Ray Winstone (“The Departedâ€) and Asian stunner Gong Li (“Miami Viceâ€) have signed on the dotted line.
The Cameron Young-written pic will star Rourke (re-teaming with Hill for the first time since “Johnny Handsomeâ€) as Hitman Vincent Novena, an assassin who goes deep undercover portraying a priest to get close enough to kill his gangland traitor target. He soon discovers that playing the part of a good man is more dangerous than being a mob killer ever was.
