Director Joe Johnston’s “Captain America” is finally (the thing has been in development for a few years now) nearing its start date.

According to Fangoria, who spoke to Johnston about his new film “The Wolfman”, the superhero flick is aiming for a June start.

Nobody has been cast as the shield-wielding avenger, but a few names that have been mooted for the lead in the past include Leonardo Di Caprio, wrestler John Cena, Will Smith (kid you not!), and “Torchwood” star John Barrowman. My money’s on an unknown (thus, someone like Barrowman) being cast.

“The First Avenger : Captain America” will be released July 22, 2011.
