Not surprisingly – since, as I said, the film hasn’t even received a greenlight yet, let alone appointed a casting director – Sam Worthington has denied rumours he’s going to be playing the big screen’s next “Flash Gordon”.

The internet was aflame last week that the Australian actor, next seen in “Clash of the Titans”, was the frontrunner to play the polo-player turned space-adventurer in director Breck Eisner’s big-screen adaptation of the pulp comic.

Only thing is, Worthington knows nothing about it.

Speaking to Aint it Cool, Worthington said “there is no validity to the rumours. Sometimes, as you know, studios tend to just scat ideas and they leak out - but it’s the first I have heard about it mate.” It’s not the first time someone’s erroneously attached Worthington’s name to a project - he was also supposed to be playing Captain America, too. But as Worthington points out, sometimes studios “tend to just scat ideas” so there is a chance the actor’s name has been brought up by those behind ‘’Flash Gordon’’, and he just hasn’t got the call yet.
