Really enjoyed the film? You’ll probably enjoy this too. Another quality series from ABC Family – I kid you not, these guys are doing some great stuff – “Ten Things” is an elongated, small-screen take on the story told within director Gil Junger’s (he also works on the series) 1999 comedy.
Playing the roles made, er, famous by Julia Stiles and Bianca Kajlich, Lindsey Shaw and Meaghan Jette Martin are polar opposite sisters, Kat and Bianca, siblings with their own unique viewers on highschool and teenage love. As with the film, Kat’s the feisty, smart student activist who doesn’t mind rockin’ the odd boat, whilst Bianca is the sweet, popular, cutie-pie who’s more about earning a place in the chic clique than getting good grades. Fortunately, the network was able to convince Larry Miller, who played the role in the film, to reprise the role of Kat and Bianca’s overprotective poppa in the series. Once again, he’s terrific.
Obviously the series doesn’t have the star power of the movie, nor does it have the soundtrack, or for that matter, some of the ‘pop’ Junger’s film encompassed, but for a TV spin-off… it’s actually quite decent. Not “M*A*S*H” or “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” decent – but still worthwhile.
