If it Slings, We Can Kill It

I never thought much of Nimrod Antal’s “Armored”. Yeah, it’s entertaining enough, and there’s a few well-choreographed action sequences (like the car chase), but even as a throwback to some of these ridiculous bullet-shredding 80s actioners it doesn’t stand up. I only hope Antal’s “Predators” (by the way, anyone else think Laurence Fishburne’s character was originally written as , Danny Glover’s character from “Predator 2”?) delivers – because at this stage, I’ve seen nothing to convince me that Sony’s eyeballing the right man for the “Spider-Man” reboot.

Oh, you didn’t know!? Marc Webb was yesterday’s news; today Antal’s the hot-favourite to steer the “Spider” reboot to theaters.

Says Quiet Earth, “Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, Vacancy. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct Armored. Now, Predators is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spider-man.”

Now whilst the site doesn’t quote a solid source, let alone name one, Quiet Earth do have quite a fairly good reputation, and their scoops usually stand up, so chances are there’s something to this. And if there scoop is on the money, then it sounds like Sam Raimi’s staying on board the project as a producer – a’la Tim Burton with Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” – which one could only imagine is a good thing for the project.

Still, don’t go drawing up your “Spiderman : A Nimrod Antal Film” fan posters just yet, kids! Chances are this time tomorrow they’ll be another director rumoured to be the frontrunner.
