Is Jeremy Piven cursed with the Jennifer Aniston disease of playing every character the exact same way? Piven channels Ari Gold into his used car salesman character of Don Ready. Hilarity ensues, or.... something.
Ready is brought in to help save a failing used car business run by Ben Selleck (James Brolin). Alan Thicke plays his nemesis, Stu Harding, one of the only memorable characters of this comedic mess. There are funny moments in the film, but the humor is consistently stupid and often the jokes fall flat. The only truly funny scenes involve Will Ferrell playing a former friend of Ready, let's just say there are dongs involved.
Andy Stock and Rick Stempson (''Balls Out: The Gary Houseman Story'') wrote and directed this mess and perhaps are to blame for Piven falling into familiar territory instead of pushing himself to go all out with this character. The story is predictable, with predictable characters. Oh and of course there's a love story involving Selleck's daughter (Jordana Spiro) and Ready.
One stand out performance came from Kathryn Hahn (''Step Brothers''). Hahn plays one of Ready's entourage and the only woman, Babs Merrick. She did the most with her few scenes and was consistently funny as the over-the-top saleswoman. Unfortunately she was in this movie and not one with a strong ensemble and script, so it is still not worth watching.
