Brad Pitt and Ryan Reynolds are said to be vying for the lead role of Marshal Matt Dillon in the feature film adaptation of classic western series “Gunsmoke”.

Naturally, being the bigger name, Pitt is CBS films’ first choice to take on the role made famous by James Arness, but reports suggest Reynolds’ is also in with a shot – and furthermore, is said to be quite keen to strap on the holster (as opposed to Pitt who likely hasn't had time to read the script, considering recent events, let alone commit to it). Personally, I'd love to see Matt Dillon play Matt Dillon.

There’s no director attached to steer Gregory Poirier’s script towards the big screen, and there mightn’t be until CBS Film’s attaches a name to the picture (Someone like Pitt will want to approve of a film's helmer before attaching himself).
