A “Gilligan’s Island” movie has been in the cards for years. News of such a project first surfaced in the mid-90s, with reports suggesting Adam Sandler was being lined up to play Gilligan and the late Chris Farley (Sandler and Farley had been in a “Gilligan’s Island” sketch on “Saturday Night Live”) was first-pick for the Skipper. Even after Farley’s tragic death, many-a-report would link Sandler (and, briefly, Australian supermodel Jennifer Hawkins to the role of ‘Ginger’) to the oft-mooted film. But again, nothing would ever come of such rumours.
Looks like Sandler (if he’s even still up for Gilligan!? Wouldn’t be surprised if someone younger, like Michael Cera or Christopher Mintz-Plasse are courted) may be finally getting the call.
Warner Bros have teamed with Atlas Enterainment on the project, says Variety. Charles Roven, the producer of “Scooby Doo” and “The Dark Knight”, is onboard to shepherd the film.
“The characters are so good. We think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day,” Roven said.
Let the casting rumours begin.. again.
