HitFix is reporting that Marvel have started to look beyond their list of fiscally-friendly no-names and bring Ryan Phillippe in to test for the role of Captain America.
The young actor, whose credits include “Cruel Intentions” and “Crash”, is most certainty the biggest name in the running right now (Chris Evans, of “Fantastic Four” fame, being the next).
Channing Tatum (“Dear John”, “G.I Joe”) is also in the mix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As the trade states, “Tatum certainly has the heft for Captain America, but can he play the 98-pound weakling alter ego Steve Rogers was before taking the super-serum which turns him into a perfect human specimen?”
Considering the studio, and director Joe Johnston, had hoped to have chosen an actor to fill Cap’s boots by March 1st, there’s likely to be some pretty stressed-out suits at Marvel right now considering April is now tugging on our socks.
Of course, the film also has to nail down a female lead in the coming weeks, too. THR reported today that Keira Knightley (“Pirates of the Caribbean”) has been approached to play Cap’s love interest, Betsy Ross.
In other Marvel News, Edward Norton is again telling reporters that he won’t be cameoing in any of the future Marvel flicks, nor will he reprise Bruce Banner for an “Incredible Hulk” sequel, but he does hint at being part of the upcoming “Avengers” flick.
