Throw JLo Overboard!

Oh please no!

The Hollywood Reporter
says Garry Marshall’s “Overboard”, starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn (and, if I recall correctly, a very young Jared Rushton), is set for the ‘do-over’ treatment.

I love ”Overboard”. Say what you will ”Private Benjamin”-fans, but I personally think it’s Goldie Hawn’s best comedy! It’s definitely one of Garry Marshall’s better movies. And Kurt Russell is terrific in it, too. And I could go on-and-on…

Saw the flick at a cinema when it was first released. Then again at a Drive-In I worked at as a teenager. It later become a bit of a VHS fave in my house. At one stage I might have even been able to quote most of the lines from it.

Oh, for those that never caught it, the flick starred Hawn as a snotty billionaire who, pissed that he’s wanting too much for the job, chucks a struggling carpenter (and single father), played by Russell, off of her boat. One things lead to another, Joanna gets amnesia and Dean decides to get back at her by claiming her as his “wife” and mother of his four brats.

But I digress…. ”Overboard” is the latest 80s comedy gem to be getting the remake treatment over in fuck-with-’em-hood. Will Smith’s Overbook Entertainment, same criminal troupe behind the upcoming remake of The Karate Kid, will produce.

Oh, have I mentioned who’s taking Goldie’s place in the flick, yet?

Jennifer Lopez.

Yep. I’m as excited as you are. Why on earth would Overbook want one of the most unbankable actresses around (since “Gigli” most of JLos flicks have gone direct-to-DVD – for good reason!) to headline what’ll undoubtedly be one of Columbia’s big releases of the year?

I haven’t read Adam Cooper, Bill Collage and Leslie Dixon’s script – but I’d be interested if anyone has it.
