Earlier this year it was reported that Jonah Nolan, brother of “Dark Knight” director Chris Nolan, was possibly set to take the reigns on Warners long-lingering “Superman” reboot. While feasible, considering Chris Nolan has already agreed to produce the film, most wondered whether Warners would trust a first time director anywhere near a $200m tentpole. Too true. But again, Chris Nolan would be overseeing the production – he’s sure to not let his brother deliver the comic-book movie equivalent of “Heaven’s Gate” .
Those rumours went away though – the ones about Jonah Nolan directing.
And last week, an all-new “Superman” rumour hit the web – one suggesting “Adventures in Babysitting” and “Harry Potter” director Chris Columbus had been offered the position of head honcho of Metropolis.
A few days later – and that’s been debunked.
And now we’re doing a complete 360….!
GeekTyrant reports that Nolan is the man. He has been working on the film for quite a while now – gearing up for the start of what’ll likely be a long shoot (whenever that is) – and is reportedly the reason that Chris Nolan, WB’s currently wonderboy, was brought in to produce.
And as I alluded to in this weeks mailbag, Warner Bros already have their scouts out looking for the next Man of Steel. I’ve heard they’re looking at several TV stars (“True Blood” star Ryan Kwanten and “Friday Night Lights” alum Scott Porter are two names I’ve heard banded about) and Den of Geek’s casting tidbit would confirm that’s indeed the case – they say “Chuck” star Zachary Levi has tested for the gig. So while it doesn’t sound like the Nolan’s are chasing a complete unknown (a’la Brandon Routh) for the role, they’re still not exactly shooting for the big guns. In the case of Superman, I think that’s the best way to go.
