My good buddy Josh Tyler (he can do a sherbet & coke chaser like no one else!) over at Cinema Blend just dropped us a line to let us know that, in their good hands, the CB troops hold the nail for the coffin that “Anchorman 2″ is about to be lowered down in.
Pull back! lean forward! and Hammer!
May the prosperous follow-up rest in peace.
“Anchorman” writer/director Adam McKay told the aforementioned site this weekend that the film most of us assumed wasn’t happening (if the filmmaker’s recent morose tweets were anything to go by) is indeed as done as Bambi’s ma.
Though the cast of “Anchorman : The Legend of Ron Burgundy”- including Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell – had all agreed to come back for the much-ballyhooed sequel at a reduced rate, Paramount just plain ol’ wasn’t interested (Probably spent too much money test-screening “The Last Airbender”).
”It’s not happening, for sure, one-hundred percent”, McKay said. “I’ll put it to bed. The only way it could come back [would be] in two years, three years, but to line everyone’s schedule up and to get everything done, and when it fell apart, to put that back together again your still talking about waiting. It’s a lot of work to line it up. That was why, no hard feelings against Paramount, we were doing many cool projects over there, but that’s why when it didn’t quite work out with the numbers it was like “that’s it.” You can’t wait for that or be in a holding pattern. But, oh well. Maybe it’s for the best. You don’t need sequels for everything. It was such a great experience doing that, but let it stand.”
But, the site adds, “In the ashes where Anchorman 2 once stood, now has entered the very real possibility of Step Brothers 2.” (In fact, Will Ferrell once told Moviehole that he had an idea for a “Step Brothers 2″ – in it, he and John C.Reilly’s characters would become parents!).
Hmmm, ya know (and I’m not just saying this because it means my mate Adam Scott gets another paycheck), I think I might rather see a “Step Brothers” sequel more so than an “Anchorman” sequel – but it’s all just personal taste (Me, personally, I’m attracted to flicks with grown-men slamming their nut sacks against drum kits).
