About half-an-hour after a reader sent over a link to a Financial Times article in the suggesting Darren Aronofsky had scrapped all plans for his “Robocop” remake (to no one’s surprise really, right? I mean, MGM can’t even afford to feed the lion right now, let alone those on the payroll!) I fortuitously ran into an old friend from the studio, here at Comic Con… as he dashed his way up the escalators.
It was brief, but we managed to speak a little about the MGM situation (“… but don’t print that” ) was muttered a few times) and Aronofsky’s “RoboCop” remake.
“Gone. Kaput. Canceled. It was one of the first casualties”, my Metro-Goldwyn Buddy said. “[Darren] has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we’re all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there”.
Apparently MGM were also looking at doing another “Rocky” movie – though not necessarily with Sylvester Stallone – and a new “Amityviille Horror” , shortly before the roof caved in.
Had no time to ask about the Bond and “Hobbit” situation but might bump into my friend over the weekend again sometime.
Including “Chicago Fire”, “The New Normal”, “Ben and Kate” and “Go On”
