If last weeks news of a ”Lethal Weapon” reboot suggested anything it’s that a) the reboot/remake loco is still as popular as ever and chugging away at considerable speed, and b) Joel Silver has bought a ticket.
Silver hasn’t done a lot of sequels. Or remakes. A lot of his films play the same, but they’re not. A “Lethal Weapon” remake is a clear indicator of both a desperate and frightened lamb that’s trying to catch up with the herd.
So do I believe these rumours from AICN that a fourth and fifth “Matrix” movie is on the cards?
Yes, sure do.
If Silver is going to push any of his vehicles after their tank has hit empty, it’s ”The Matrix” – one of his biggest success stories.
Keanu Reeves probably won’t be knocking back the bucks that would come stapled to such an offer, either.
Reeves was the guest of honour at the London School of Performing Arts and reportedly said a fourth and fifth “Matrix” was in the cards – and not surprisingly, both would be released in 3D.
The actor has apparently met with the Wachowski’s – just before Christmas – who showed Reeves a two-movie treatment.
Says the scooper, “..the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pro’s and con’s of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title “The Matrix” and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie.”
So there you have it, ‘Neo’ may be taking another trip down the Rabbit Hole.
So what else can the studios start digging up and dusting off for a new audience? What about the ever-beloved “Critters” franchise? Are the “Ghoulies” not 3D worthy?! Joel Silver also has “The Last Boy Scout” – time for a remake?
Who’s excited for “Matrix 4″ and “5″? Or do you think the idea stinks of desperation?
Including “Chicago Fire”, “The New Normal”, “Ben and Kate” and “Go On”
