“Straw Dogs” going DTV Downunder

Sony Pictures Releasing has announced that the poorly-recieved remake of “Straw Dogs”, starring Alexander Skarsgaard and James Marsden, will be going direct-to-DVD in Australia.

Alexander joins “The Last Stand”

“Thor” actress Jaimie Alexander has joined Arnold Schwarzenegger, Zach Gilford and Peter Stormare in the thriller. Alexander will play a “beautiful cop” under Schwarzenegger’s sheriff’s command. (Variety)

Russell Hammond, Rock Superstar, enlists for “Neighbourhood Watch”

Billy Crudup (“Watchmen”) will play a “creepy and weird neighbour” in a new comedy about some bored suburbanites who discover an alien plot to take over the world. Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Nicholas Braun, Richard Ayoade, and Will Forte star in the film, written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. (Heat Vision)

Towne writing “Battle of Britain”

“Chinatown” scribe Robert Towne is penning a film about the largest air battle in history, for GK films. “My father lived in London and watched this spectacular dog fight over the city, so bringing this story of endurance and triumph to the big screen means a great deal to me,” King said in a statement. “I am also extremely excited to be joining forces with the iconic Robert Towne who is a master of mixing complex characters and tremendously compelling plots. Robert has a passion for history and a shared love of this particular story.” (Deadline)

Fox Searchlight’s Twitter account has announced plans for a December 2 bow for Michael Winterbottom’s “Shame” starring Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan and their respective fleshy bits. (Twitter)

The Year of the Horse : “Mr Ed” returns!

TV’s “Mr Ed” is getting the big screen treatment with thanks to Fox2000 and producers David Friendly (”Meet Dave”) and Jim Mahoney. No cast or director are onboard. All that’s known about the project at this stage is that the producers are huge fans of the TV show and have been chasing the rights for years. (THR)

“Dexter” may die!

Showtime’s “Dexter” might come to an end at the end of the current season if contract disputes between the network and star Michael C.Hall are resolved in time. (Deadline)

Oscar Hosts Reunite for Movie!

2011 Oscar hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will reunite with the telecast’s producer Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”) for a new comedy that’s described as a “comedy that has a bit of Trading Places meets Grumpy Old Men.” (Deadline)

“Whitney” and “Up All Night” here to stay… for a while

On top of announcing that they’d cancelled “The Playboy Club”, NBC announced that they had commissioned full-season orders for two new sitcoms, “Up All Night” with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett and “Whitney” starring Whitney Cummings. (TV Line)

Kilmer, Mitchell and “Goats”

Val Kilmer and Radha Mitchell have joined the cast of director D.J Caruso’s new coming-of-age drama. “Based on the critically acclaimed young adult novel by Brock Cole, pic stars Chandler Canterbury and Annalise Basso as kids at summer camp who fall victim to a cruel prank that leaves them stranded on Goat Island. Rather than face the humiliation of returning to camp, the duo decide to run away together on a three-day journey of self-discovery.” Kilmer will play a deputy sheriff, while Mitchell will play Basso’s mother and Maberly will play a camp counselor. (Variety)

Kate from “Lost” knows Elvish!

Evangeline Lily spoke to Access Hollywood at the premiere of her new film “Real Steel” and spoke not only about her role in the upcoming “The Hobbit” but recited a couple of lines from the “Rings” prequel :

Owen Wilson spills “Zoolander 2″ secrets

“Hansel, he’s fallen on hard times,” Wilson says of his character. “Think Vanilla Sky” (MTV)

Tania Raymonde spills “Texas Chainsaw 3D” secrets

”This movie takes off where the original started and stands on its own as a thriller and origin story”, says the actress. “There’s something epic and scary about it as it delves into this disturbed mind that is not right. It’s got a lot of action, so it’s cool.”
Raymonde says her character Nikki is “a party girl, but she’s got a lot of balls. There are some moments toward the middle of the movie where she kicks some ass and isn’t the typical slutty best friend. There are a lot of unorthodox things about this movie that are original and new. I don’t think people are going to be disappointed.” (STYD)

Here’s the alternate opening to “Scream 4″

One of the bonus bits on the upcoming “Scream 4″ Blu-ray release is an alternate opening to the film. It’s not much different to the one that’s in the film, and still fixes on Aimee Teegarden and Brit Robertson’s characters, but fans will notice a few additions and subtractions.
