Mel Gibson will be in Austin, Texas in a few weeks to introduce and show-off his [apparently terrific] new movie “Get the Gringo” at a screening organized by Aint it Cool News – but is that the only reason that brings Gibson to town?
Guessing not.
Deadline says Austin-based Robert Rodriguez is trying to court Gibson for “Machete 2”, hoping to sign the “Lethal Weapon” star before Cannes, so he can have some extra names onboard before trying to sell the film. The site says Oscar Nominee Michelle Williams (“My Week with Marilyn”) is also someone Rodriguez is hoping to snag for the film.
For the first “Machete”, Rodriguez was able to coax vets like Don Johnson and Steven Seagal into playing roles, so you never know, maybe this will float Gibson’s boat? Question is : Would Gibson be playing a villain, just as Johnson and Seagal did in the 2010 film?
Danny Trejo reprises the title role in the film.
