Over the summer i've been reading
Too Fat To Fish and Death from the Skies!. Too fat is by the comedian artie lange, and is stories from his life. From his childhood, his father becoming a quadraphonic, gambling, banging hookers, his drug abuses, jobs he had, his breakdowns and battles with drugs, attemping suicide. It's quite fascinating, and while it's not a hard book to read, or a long one. Due to it all being stories, it's been good to here and there sit out in the sun when i get a chance and read one of the stories. The one about his final blow out at mad tv, being chased from the set by producers, running through hollywood and ending up in a supermarket throwing produce at people, before trying to punch a cop.. wow.. He's one fucked up person, the book is hilarious, fascinating and actually quite sad at times. If you know anything about Artie, it's a great book. If you don't know him i'm sure you'd still find it interesting, it's just incredible his life. When he was 17 he passed a bank teller a fake hold up note as a joke... didn't go down too well haha Death from the Skies! is by Phil Plait of Bad Astronomy. It's an easy to read science type book about all the ways the universe could kill life on earth. It's also in nice chapters so has been a book i can read a section here and there when i have time. If you like astronomy and science stuff its great and it doesn't get all technical or hard to understand. Its written for the non astrophysicist to read and understand. If you are one, you'd find it way too simplistic. Each section starts off with a short story of what would happen on earth if the even happened. But yeah I find the book and this stuff fascinating. Both books i'd recommend, but i guess death from the skies, you know if you'd like it or not. The Artie Book is just amazing his life. He's still fucked up today, and is starting on the second book which i'm sure will have more insane stories. Both are good for putting down and picking up a week later and reading the next section, which suits me well. I never get time to sit down and do lots of reading. Last edited by Up_All_Night : 15-02-2009 at 01:04 AM. |

Killing Juanita, by Peter Rees...
It's a fascinating true story about murder and corruption in 1970's Sydney. It is also painfully obvious, when one reads the book, that the killers of Juanita Nielsen will never be brought to justice, and that her body will never, ever, be found. It is one of the most preeminent and notorious cold cases in Australian criminal history to date. ![]()

I have read quite a few novels over the last month and a bit. Here they are:
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. ![]() City of Bones - Fifteen-year-old Clary Fray is introduced to the world of the Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to driving demons out of our world. And she's introduced with a vengeance, when Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque monster sent by the evil and powerful Shadowhunter, Valentine. How could a mere human survive such an attack. City of Ashes - Clary just wants her life to go back to normal--but that turns out to be impossible. For one thing, her mother is still in the hospital, in a mysterious coma. For another, she and her newfound brother Jace have fallen under a cloud of suspicion now that the Shadowhunter world knows that Valentine is still alive--and that Jace and Clary are his son and daughter. Then Clary's best friend Simon is turned into a vampire and kidnapped by Valentine, who intends to sacrifice him as part of a bloody ritual that will make the Mortal Instruments Valentine's forever. City of Glass - Clary has to use all her ingenuity and newfound magical skills to get herself to the Glass City in Idris, the secretive Shadowhunters' home country, where she is forbidden to go--for it is only there that she can find the cure to the enchanted sleeping sickness to which her mother has succumbed. When Valentine attacks the city and destroys the demon towers, Clary and her allies are all that stand between him and the total annihilation of all Shadowhunters. Love is a mortal sin and the past tangles inextricably with the present as Clary and Jace face down their father in the final installment of the Mortal Instruments series.

The House of Night Series by PC and Kristen Cast.
![]() Marked (1) - Betrayed (2) - Chosen (3) - Untamed (4) -The House of Night follows 16-year-old Zoey Redbird as she is 'Marked' by a vampyre tracker and begins to undergo the 'Change' into an actual vampyre. She has to leave her family in Tulsa and move into the House of Night, a boarding school for other fledglings like her. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. Although Zoey has awesome new powers, it's hard to fit in when everyone knows you're 'special.' As Zoey tries to make new friends and maybe find a hot boyfriend (or two), she comes up against all kinds of evil, from the perfect-looking, super-popular girl with not-so- faultless plans, to the mysterious deaths happening at the House of Night and all over Tulsa. Things at the House of Night are not always what they seem. Can Zoey find the courage deep within herself to find the truth and embrace her destiny?

The House of Night by PC and Kristen Cast.
![]() Hunted (5) - Zoey's friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren't Neferet's secrets any longer. The bad news: Ancient evil with the face of an angel has been let loose - that and various other nasties (whose faces aren't so angelic). Grandma Redbird is in trouble. Heath is in trouble. The House of Night is in trouble. Okay, let's face it - Zoey's whole world is in trouble! But when the trouble comes from a being who appears to be beauty personified, will the world believe it? Especially when only a teenager and a group of misfits are the only ones who really understand the danger he brings. Will Zoey have the strength and wisdom to reveal the truth?

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
![]() VA - St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school--it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's--the very place where they're most in danger. . . . Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi--the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires--make Lissa one of them forever. Frostbite - Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose... It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians--including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if handto- hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks....This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory. But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price... Shadow Kiss - Is Rose's fate to kill the person she loves most? It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since Mason's death, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She has dark flashbacks in the middle of practice, can't concentrate in class, and has terrifying dreams about Lissa. But Rose has an even bigger secret . . . .She's in love with Dimitri. And this time, it's way more than a crush. Then Strigoi target the academy in the deadliest attack in Moroi history, and Dimitri is taken. Rose must protect Lissa at all costs, but keeping her best friend safe could mean losing Dimitri forever.

And finally....
Air Head: Being Nikki by Meg Cabot. ![]() Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts. Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel. But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts. How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns - especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side... Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular. But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. ![]() A fresh, urban twist on the classic tale of star-crossed lovers. When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created 'perfect' life is about to unravel before her eyes. She's forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for - her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more. In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart. Prom Nights from Hell. ![]() Bestselling authors Meg Cabot (Princess Diaries), Stephenie Meyer (Twilight), Lauren Myracle (ttyl), Michele Jaffe (Bad Kitty) and Kim Harrison (A Fistful of Charms) take bad prom dates to a whole new level - a paranormally bad level. And i'm just about to start another one called 'Every Boy's Got One'.

Epicenter by Joel Rosenberg.
Traces the yet-unfulfilled Biblical prophecy of the War of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38 and 39 where Russia and Iran head up a group of ten nations to attack Israel. Interesting read.
