Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba, Terrence Howard, Lena Olin, Christopher McDonald, Fisher Stevens
‘’Awake’’ is like a Transformer for two reasons – firstly, there’s ‘more than meets the eye’ going on within its controversial story, but more so, just when you begin to get comfortable with it as one thing it suddenly changes into something totally different.
The new psychological thriller starring Hayden Christensen (that dude can actually act – he just doesn’t know how to react to a blue-screen; thankfully there aren't a lot of those in here) and Jessica Alba tells of a young billionaire (‘’Star Wars’’’ Christensen) who discovers he’s not completely ‘under’ during heart surgery. What he feels- ouch! - is terrifying, but what he overhears the doctors operating him talking about is even more unsettling.
If it maintained a constant tone throughout – and didn’t go from a gripping psychological drama to, well, ‘’Ghost’’ (1990) - it could’ve been one of the year’s highlights. Instead, it’s merely a fun but forgettable popcorn thriller. Still, that isn’t a bad thing to be – and this by no means is this no an entertaining movie.
And talk about gripping - during the op scenes, your hands will bleed from clutching the seat in front of you – it’s that tense!
